When I
first started Spanish classes in 7th grade, it was for the
school's purpose. It was a required course and that was that.
Later, as I discovered I had a gift and a fondness for the
language, it became for my purposes that I continued in my
studies. Now, as I look back, it is increasingly clear that
all along it was for God's purposes that I was learning this
language and putting it to use.
I have
learned that bilingualism, as well as all other gifts from
God; benefit both God and the gifted. In my case, I teach
10 English classes per week, 8 for pay (far higher than any
other summer job) and 2 as a volunteer.
Personally,
I consider myself lucky that God allows me to use His gift
for my gain 80% of the time. The two classes I teach as a
volunteer are at Family of Faith Lutheran Church, which I
found out about serendipitously through a contact with my
English teacher one year. Since then, my Spanish has improved
immensely, I have met many people I would otherwise not have
known existed and hopefully, I have given a small portion
of my gift from God back to God. ("The King will reply, 'I
tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least
of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40)
The experience
I have gained through this program has served me well and
God very well. There is no doubt in my mind that God looks
with pleasure upon the works and the faith both shown through
this program. So I give you all a big pat on the back and
say "Well done, good and faithful servants." (Matthew 25:21
& 23)
Yours
in Christ,
Daniel
